We have been extremely fortunate here at Teague Publishing to have had the opportunity to meet a number of exceptional people, many of whom happen to be highly talented authors.
As you know, our primary goal is to help writers achieve their dream of being published. We know how exciting it can be to publish a book and have an opportunity to share your expertise with the world. One thing that separates us from many is the commitment that we make to our authors. It starts with the belief that a strong relationship between author and publisher is paramount, and to foster that relationship we dedicate ourselves to helping each author achieve success.
With that commitment to helping others, we wanted to extend that beyond helping authors to helping those in need.
Idea To Help
Inspired by a poem we read from Kara Stefanowich via Twitter, we thought it would be a great idea to collaborate with a number of talented authors on a book of poetry and donate all of the proceeds to charity.
Why are we donating proceeds to charity?
Quite simply, we felt this was a great opportunity to touch the lives of many people. Often times it may feel like a small donation is not that significant, but the small actions of a few people can truly have a significant impact and help far more people than is recognizable at first glance.
Why poetry?
There are a number of publishers that turn down poetry submissions from authors. However, we felt that this was an appropriate synergy between helping authors get their work published and helping the numerous recipients by donating all of the proceeds to charity.
Call For Authors
To make this idea a success, we need the help of you–the talented author that has the skill of writing poetry. We are looking for authors that are willing to submit their poetry for inclusion in our book with the knowledge that their efforts will be helping charity.
How do you submit your poetry?
Simply send an email to submissions@teaguepublishing.com with the subject line of “Poems for Charity“. Your submission may be included inline within the email or as an attachment, whichever is easiest for you. Also, please include a short bio of yourself in the email–you will see why in a moment.
How many poems should you submit?
We encourage you to submit as many poems as you feel is appropriate. That can be one poem or fifty poems. All submissions will be reviewed by our team and not all of them will be included as part of the final publication, but we welcome all poems for consideration.
What type of poetry do we want?
We don’t want to be too restrictive on the topic of poetry, but ideally we want to be able to compile a collection of poems on related topics. We’re looking for the type of poems that trigger an emotional response in the reader–poems that are uplifting, emotional, honest, and express feelings.
Our Commitment To You
We know that we are asking a great deal in releasing your rights of the poems and not receiving royalties in return. However, we still want to recognize you for your efforts and therefore we will be showcasing the authors of these poems here on the website and via social media.
For each author included in the book, we will feature their bio here on the website and provide additional recognition on Twitter and Facebook.
While this might not be the same as receiving a royalty check for your work, we feel that it is important to recognize those that appreciate the fact that their efforts are going to those that are in need of help.
Our Selected Charities
As we have mentioned, all proceeds from this book will be donated to charity. This is a purely a not-for-profit endeavor on the part of both Teague Publishing and the authors.
The two charities that we have selected are RAINN and The Wayne Foundation.
RAINN, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, is committed to educating the public about sexual violence and is leading national efforts to prevent sexual violence. In addition, RAINN is working to improve services to victims of sexual violence and ensure that rapists are brought to justice.
The Wayne Foundation has made a commitment to fighting human trafficking, child prostitution, & child sex exploitation one victim at a time by providing individuals with a safe home environment that will empower them with the tools they will need to stop the cycle of abuse. The Wayne Foundation’s objective is to aid these young women until they are capable of reentering society on their own as happy and healthy adults.
We believe that both of these charities are performing an amazing service for those people in need and we fully support the efforts that they are making. Again, all proceeds from this book will be donated to these two charities, 50% to each, in the names of the authors’ and Teague Publishing.
Help Us Help Others
By now we hope that you recognize the impact that this idea can have, and that you are as excited as we are at the opportunity that lies ahead.
Please share this idea with authors that you know, and be sure to submit your poetry as well. You can also help us by spreading the word and using the icons below to Tweet this message or share on Facebook, even if you are not interested in submitting a poem of your own.
We look forward to hearing from you!

I think this is a brilliant idea. I will do my best to spread the word as I am acquainted with so many starving poets. You’re wonderful for working so hard to help victims in need. I applaud you. And thank you so much for reading and appreciating my work. Means the world to me!
Kara, thank you so much for the feedback and help in spreading the word to other authors!
We know how much it can mean to have someone believe in you and your work, and feel that is something that we provide to all of the authors that we work with. Your work inspired us to begin this initiative and for that we are truly grateful.
I just wanted to drop a comment and let you know I really enjoy coming to your website! I can tell you put a lot of effort and hard work into it. Thank you
Cheers
Lovely concept! Will you be accepting poems that have been posted on the poets blogs or strictly never read before pieces? Look forward to participating! ~ Rose
Hi Rose,
The requirement for submission is that you must be the copyright holder and that you must be able to give us the right to publish the work and that you waive all royalties in order for all proceeds to be contributed to the charities we have chosen.
As long as you meet those base legal requirements then it will be considered for publishing in the book. We look forward to your submissions.
Thanks,
Jim
Thanks Jim! Appreciate the reply and look forward to pulling together some of my work for this. ~ Rose
